GLIN
Celtic Folk for the Easter Season
A brief introduction to a musical project that has completely swept my daughter and me away.
Arist: GLIN
Projects: Unplugged Volumes 1-2, Singles
Last month I came across the joyous whistle-and-guitar duo that is GLIN.
GLIN is made up of Ali Levack and Craig Irving, two young Scotsmen making original Celtic and folk music that is rapturous, moving, playful, and alive. Having listened through both EPs and all their singles, I can gladly recommend everything they’ve done.
Notice their interplay: Irving holds the pocket with mastery while Levack dances all around it, like a bird delivering the best news in the world. Levack’s musicality is modern yet deeply reverent of what came before. And Irving is no mere accompanist; when he takes the melodic lead, his guitar intonation is crisp and assured.
This music feels made for the Easter season and for Spring, when flowers open, bees dart through the warm air, and birdsong fills every morning with expectation.
