Songs That Step Back
Andrew Osenga and the art of honest music
Andrew Osenga is a gift. He is the (increasingly rare) kind of songwriter who doesn’t merely observe the world but moves through it with a biblical imagination. He’s attuned to the hand of God in ordinary things, whether those things are lovely or devastating.
What makes his work so inviting is its lack of pretense. Osenga seems to step back and let the songs he’s written do their work, trusting that honesty is enough. I’ve been spending time lately with the warmth of Headwaters, the folk intimacy of Hold the Light, and the luminous instrumental record El Desierto Pintado - which is perfect for study, concentration, or a long walk. You can also check out his Substack, HERE.
I’m honored to have his music on the Audio Deacon app, and I'‘d love for you to spend some time with it as well.
